Memorial Day Service Project

Posted on May 10 2021 - 9:38am

For the past 15+ years, Troop 133 has volunteer on Memorial Day at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.  This year is no exception.

Scouts are needed to hand out flags to visitors and to participate in a flag ceremony.  This is a great opportunity to serve our community and earn service hours for rank advancement.

Monday 5/31/21 from 10am-2pm.  See Calendar event for more info.

If you have any questions you may contact Sandy Fox <sandyfoxx@hotmail.com>

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) - Summer or Fall Session

Posted on May 9 2021 - 6:02pm

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
https://www.crossroadsbsa.org/nylt/

NYLT training is a two weekend (Spring or Fall) or one full week (summer) training that prepares older scouts for roles in Troop Leadership.

Ideally, all scouts will have the opportunity to go through this course so they are all prepared to take on the higher leadership roles in the Troop such as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Quartermaster, Quartermaster, Troop Guide, Den Cheif…

Scouts must be 13 years old and First Class to participate. Scouts must also have served in the Troop as Patrol Leader or Assistant Patrol Leader AND taken the Introduction to Leadership Course (ILS) that the Scoutmaster leads at the beginning of their term.  Therefore, many scouts in Llamas, Phoenix, Fox, Vikings, Wolverines are eligible and encouraged to attend.

Three sessions of NYLT are offered each year: two weekends in the spring, one full week in the summer, and two weekends in the fall.

2021 courses offered are:
4/9-4/11 and 4/23-4/25 Camp Kikthawenund
Passed

6/13-6/19 Camp Krietenstein

9/10-9/12 and 9/24-9/26 Camp Kikthawenund
https://scoutingevent.com/160-2021nyltsept

If your scout is eligible, consider signing your scout up for these courses this year.  And RSVP on the Troop Calendar so that the Troop can grant the scout credit, and so other families know you intend to go which may encourage more participation from friends.

The cost is $260, but scholarships are available (Due 5/15 for Summer and 8/1 for Fall).

Health Forms Due Required for 2021

Posted on May 9 2021 - 6:02pm

All Scouts and Adults are required to complete an updated Health Form for Calendar Year 2021.

Anyone participating in Troop 133 and Troop 1033 activities (Scouts AND Adults) must complete Parts A, B and C of the attached Health Form including the doctor signature on Part C.  If you've already had a physical this year, you can send the form to your doctor for signature. These are absolutely required for summer camp, but we also need them for Troop weekend outings.

Nicole Goodman will be collecting forms.  If you've already turned in one to her for Sea Base, that one is good for a year and therefore no need to update it.  But if you weren't on the Sea Base trip, chances are that she still needs your form(s).

You can send them to her via email:
nsshook@yahoo.com

or mail to her or drop off in her mail box:
7256 Briarwood Ct
Indianapolis, IN 46250

We need these forms ASAP to participate in scout outings.  Please try to get these to Nicole by mid May.

RSVP for Shades State Park and Zipling

Posted on May 3 2021 - 6:33am

RSVP for May Campout at Shades State Park and Ziplining, Friday May 14th to Sunday 16th

Our goal for all outings is to have RSVPs complete two Monday's prior to the event. That gives the PLC and leaders enough time to plan the program.
So please RSVP prior to 6pm on Monday 5/3/21.
https://www.troop133indy.com/node/10011

Program details will be worked out by the PLC, but briefly, cost is $50/scout, $20/adult (unless adults want to zipline, then there is a separate RSVP on the calendar and additional $45 charge).
Similar to the backpack outing, there are two online waivers to fill out asking if you'd like your scout to ride in a carpool (with masks on) vs you driving them, and permission to share a tent with a patrol mate or to tent solo.  This time we will also offer Patrol cooking (with masks and gloves for the cooks) with parent's permission.

There is also a hard copy waiver that must be filled out for ziplining.  Please print, sign, and bring to the scout meeting.
